The leaves are starting to change color, the geese are announcing their presence in the skies, the mornings are getting cooler, and the children are back in school. It can only mean one thing: time to sing again with the Peace River Community Choir!
At the end of last season, we read all the evaluation forms and made a few small changes for our fifth year together.
We will be starting rehearsals at 7:15 each Tuesday night. Hopefully this will accommodate those who found it difficult to arrive on time last year. Doors to the school will open at 7:00 pm, so please make it a point to be punctual. We are telling people that the baton comes down at precisely 7:15. We only have two short hours together each week, so let's make them count!
Many members enjoyed our post-rehearsal gatherings at Smitty's Pub, so we intend to make them a regular part of the social aspect of the choir. Our first rehearsal is September 18, followed by a get-acquainted session at the Pub. From then on, we'll have Pub nights the first Tuesday of every month.
As usual, we are on the lookout for male voices. Our librarian is attending a wedding in Las Vegas this week and has promised to bring back a spectacular prize for our "Bring a Man to Choir" draw on September 25. No, it's not one of the good-looking guys from one of the male strip joints, but I'm sure the prize will still be worth encouraging someone with a Y chromosome to come out that night.
Whether you've sung with us in the past, are new to Peace River, or are new to singing in general, we encourage you to come to one of
our first three trial rehearsals. In order to have choir numbers firmly in place for ordering music, we ask that people commit by October 2nd. Membership fees are $150 per year which goes to music purchases, honorariums for the conductor & the accompanist, venue rental, festival entries and general operating expenses. Assistance is available for those who may not be able to afford the annual fee.
If you still have questions about the choir, you can contact our choir director Nicola Quigley on the home page, post a comment to this post, or phone me (Joan Blench) at 780.624.1256.
Our season is soon to begin. Come Sing with Us!
